White powder with a slight odor. It is hygroscopic. Deliquescent in wet air, soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol. It is a salt substance in an acid-base salt.
The solubility in 10% water is about 100 (15 ° C), and the pH is 8.5~10.5.
Active in acidic pH. It is used as a food preservative and is suitable as a preservative in cakes and as a fungicide for bread. The amount of food used is the same as calcium propionate (calculated as propionic acid).
The allowable concentration in cosmetics is 2% (based on propionic acid).
